an interactive seminar

Pier601 works with a multitude of clients every year, but on November 17th, 2015, they were able to serve UNCW through a special workshop offered only to students. Patrick Wagner, an expert in graphic design and a member of Pier601, prepared an interactive seminar that coached a classroom of students through the basics of Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop. Over 25 students signed up for and benefited from this unique opportunity.

The experience

Starting with a brief presentation describing the different elements that can be utilized in digital art, Wagner smoothly welcomed the classroom into the world of graphic design. He covered the importance of space, different types of font and their proper applications, and much more. Afterwards, the classroom each opened up an InDesign file and got started. Each student was walked through the many tools and techniques that the program offers, as they each began work on their original masterpieces.

By the end of the seminar, each student had successfully created a layout using Adobe InDesign and a personal logo using Illustrator. Pier601 is grateful for the unique opportunity to share its expertise with the UNCW community, and hopes to host similar events in the future!
